Island Boy Comfort Fund- Bed Building to Begin Soon
The Island Boy Comfort Fund is a fund that is dedicated to purchase the necessary materials and supplies for volunteers to build elevated dog beds for use at Indianapolis Animal Care and Control. Elevated dog beds will help comfort the dogs at the shelter by providing them with a soft, clean and dry bed during their stay.
The Fund is in memory of Island Boy Shinn, a best buddy of Mike Shinn, the Treasurer
and a founding board member of our organization. Island Boy was diagnosed with
bone cancer in early March of 2008 and was only given a few weeks to live. However,
thanks to the efforts of the Purdue Small Animal Hospital , Island Boy was able to have a fun filled (and pain free) summer of playing, swimming, and hiking before recently succumbing to his disease in late September 2008. During the last several nights of Island's life, not only to monitor how Island was doing, but to also bring him much needed comfort, Mike slept on the floor with Island - thus, the inspiration for the Island Boy Comfort Fund.
The shelter has a need for over 450 of these beds and it is anticipated that approximately $10,000 will be needed to buy the materials for not only the initial outfitting of the shelter, but to also help keep the shelter supplied with needed repair and replacement materials and beds. Please consider donating today to help us reach our goal. Stay tuned for more details on this event and how you can help!
